Abstract

The study aimed to find out the post-traumatic growth and symptoms of mental disorder among displaced people in UNRWA shelters in Khan Younis province after the latest offensive war in 2014. Besides, it aimed to identify the relationship between the post-traumatic growth and the symptoms of mental disorder. Moreover, the study aimed to explore the differences in the post-traumatic growth, which are attributed to the study variables such as (gender, age, marital status, educational qualification and place of residence). The study was conducted on a random sample of )202) displaced persons in the UNRWA shelters after the last war on Gaza, 2014. The researchers followed the descriptive analytical approach, and they used two scales, which are: (Post-Traumatic Growth, prepared by Tedeschi Calhoun, translated by Abdul Aziz Thabit) scale, (Revised List of Symptoms, prepared by Al-Buhairi, 2005) scale. The results of the study have revealed that: • There is an intermediate level of post-traumatic growth and symptoms of mental disorders among displaced people in the UNRWA shelters. • There is a negative relationship between the post-traumatic growth and depression. • There are statistically significant differences in the disorders' symptoms; the results were in favor of people without jobs in study sample. • There are statistically significant differences in the symptoms of aggression; the results were in favor of females. There are no statistically significant differences, attributed to variables like place of residence, education and age, in the post-traumatic growth and the disorders' symptoms.
