Abstract

The aim of this study was to explore the current status of academic counseling, to identify the role of academic counselors and their problems , and to find out the relationship between these problems and counselors, sex , learning stage and school district The society of this study consisted of all counselors in Gaza Governerates which their number was (150) Arandom sample of (88) counselors .was selected which constituled (%84) of the total society of counselors .To get the needed data A questionnaire of 27items, distributed between three domains was developed and administered to the members of the sample. The results. of this study revealed that the domain. of problems reated to preparation and training come in the first place with a percentage of (%73.33) followed by the domain of problems related to work conditions with a percentage of (%74,17) and finally come the domain of problems related to school administration and teaching staff with a percentage of (%56.49). The results also revealed that there were no significant differences in the means of problems due to sex of counselors or school stage or school district. In light of these results the researcher suggested that. academic counseling should be given more attention and providing each school with a full-time counselor. finally media should emphasize the importance of academic counseling to the public .
