Abstract

This research aims at studying homonymy phenomenon in Imam Abdul Qahir al-Jarjani's interpretation(tafsir) of the Quran(Drj Ad-Dorr). That’s because of the relation between miracle rhetoric and homonymy. Significances meaning, forms and synonyms of some vocabularies have many significances in Quran text. Homonymy is a word that is identical in spelling and pronunciation to another word but has a different meaning. The different use causes variety of meaning. That made them a worthy linguistics case to study and search and one of the elements of developing, enriching and well- knowledge of their significances. Lots of linguists and Scholars of rhetoric interested in this phenomenon, Linguistics noticed that and mentioned it's evidences and significant effects to explain the meaning of the Quran. Homonymy is a special significant phenomenon which appeared by different elements. As words develop and change, their meanings also do but keep their pronunciations. Homonymy appears either according to combining of languages and the development of expressions or figurative use. Expressions of intended meaning widens through homonymy that promotes significant issues related to linguistic phenomena which suit conditions of the use. I followed a descriptive and analytical approach in this research.
