Abstract

This paper investigates the time adverb ‫ﯿﻦ‬ ‫,ﺣ‬ ḥina, 'when', in the Holy Qur'an in terms of function and significance. Scholar, both linguists and grammarians, infrequently investigated this adverb. The paper focuses on several issues including, the consideration of ḥina by linguists and grammarians, syntactic analysis, and characteristics of ḥina, in all its cases, be it standing alone or added to other items, whether its addition is to the singular, or to a sentence, and in case a preposition is introduced thereafter. The paper surveyed the occurrences of ḥina in the text of the Holy Qur'an, and referred to statements of grammarians and exegetes.
