Study objectives: The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of a counseling program in the development of techniques of coping with psychological stresses. The study also aimed to measure the level of psychological stress among the target sample members. In addition, it aimed to raise the mothers’ awareness of the nature of the psychological stresses they may be exposed to, ways of reducing them, and developing the techniques of coping with them. Study methodology: The study used the quasi-experimental approach. Study sample: The original sample of the study consisted of all the SOS mothers in the Children's Village in Rafah. Study tools: The counseling program, the scale of psychological stresses, and the scale of the ability to cope with psychological stresses. Statistical treatments: The researcher used the following statistical methods for data processing and the validation of the hypotheses: Pearson’s correlation formula to calculate the validity and reliability coefficient, formula of Spearmen-Brown, Gottman's formula for calculating reliability, Cronbach's alpha for reliability, Wilcoxon’s non-parametric test for calculating the significance of differences between means of two related groups, and the formula of the effect size (ETA coefficient square) to verify the effectiveness of the program. Study findings: There were high degree psychological stresses among SOS mothers working in the Children's Village. There were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group on the scale of the ability to cope with the psychological stress in the post measurement compared with pre measurement, in favor of the post measurement. There were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group in the post measurement of the degree of the psychological stress compared with the pre measurement, in favor of the post application. There were no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group on the ability to cope with psychological stress scale in the post and subsequent applications.
