TitleThe Effectiveness Of Counseling Program To Enhancing Positive Thinking And Gentle Teaching For Mothers Of Traumatized Children
Title in Arabicفاعلية برنامج إرشادي لتطوير مهارتي التفكير الإيجابي والتعليم الملطف لأمهات الأطفال الذين تعرضوا لخبرات صادمة
Abstract

Abstract The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of a counseling program in developing the skills of positive thinking and gentle teaching of the mothers of children exposed to traumatic experiences. The study original sample consisted of (100) randomly chosen from mothers whose children had been exposed to traumatic experiences. The study tools (positive thinking and scale of gentle teaching prepared by the researcher) were applied on the original sample and after the applications of the study tools only (24) mothers were chosen to take part in the experiment. Those mothers were the ones who got the lowest scores in the skills of positive thinking and gentle teaching. They were divided into two groups, the first experimental consisting of (12) mothers on whom the counseling program was applied, and the second a control one also consisting of another (12) mother on whom the program was not applied. To verify the study hypotheses, the researcher used three tools: the counseling program, the positive thinking scale, and the gentle teaching scale), all prepared by the researcher. In this study, the researcher adopted the descriptive approach and the quasi-experimental approach. To analyze the study data, the researcher used statistical techniques including non-parametric statistics of small samples contained in the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS): (Pearson correlation coefficient to calculate the correlation coefficients between each item of the scale with those of the total score of the scales items, Mann-Whitney non-parametric test to verify the significance of differences between the means of the two experimental and control groups on the scales, Wilcoxon non-parametric test to identify statistical differences between means, Spearman Brown formula to calculate the stability of macro-scale coefficient, and Cronbach's alpha and Split half formula to check the validity and reliability of the scales). The study findings showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤0.05) in the level of positive thinking skills and gentle teaching skills between the subjects of the experimental group and those of the control one in the post measurement of positive thinking and gentle teaching in favor of the experimental group subjects. There were also statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤0.05) between the pre, post and delayed applications of the measurements in positive thinking and gentle teaching in favor of the experimental group subjects. The study recommended that those working in the field of mental health should use what entailed in the counseling program as the study proved that it was significantly effective.
