Abstract

Abstract Study aim: The study aimed at formulating a proposed strategy for the development of change leadership in the higher education institutions in Gaza governorates in the light of the principles of sustainable development, through identifying the reality of change leadership in the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG). Research approach: The researcher adopted the analytical-descriptive approach, as well as the constructivist approach. Study two tools: The researcher used the questionnaire and the focus group as research tools. Study sample: The study sample, whose size was (110) employees, consisted of all the deans, deputy deans, heads of departments and directors of academic and administrative units at the Islamic University of Gaza. Study most important findings: Setting a proposed strategy for the development of the change leadership in the light of the principles of sustainable development. The total degree of the questionnaire of the development of change leadership in the light of sustainable development from the viewpoints of (deans, deputy deans, head of departments, and directors) had a percentage weight of (69.20%) which means that there was a large degree of agreement. There were statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) between the mean scores of the sample’s estimates of the Islamic University’s practice of change leadership in the light of the principles of sustainable development attributed to the hierarchical grade variable (dean, deputy dean, director ,head of department) There were no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) between the mean scores of sample’s estimates of the Islamic University’s practice of change leadership in the light of the principles of sustainable development attributed to both the variable academic degree (PhD, MA, BA) and the variable of years of service (less than 5 years, 5 years. Less than 10 years, 10 years and over). Study most important recommendations: There is necessary that the Palestinian higher education institutions and universities should adopt a strategy to develop the change leadership projects in the light of the principles of sustainable development because of its active role in increasing the effectiveness of the performance. Academics should be encouraged to initiate projects and successful ideas to help solve community problems. Keywords: change leadership, the principles of sustainable development
