TitleGlobal Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Status and Its Applications in the Gaza Strip
Title in Arabicالوضع الحالي لانظمة الملاحة العالمية و تطبيقاتها في قطاع غزة
Abstract

Gaza Strip is currently moving towards developing a full GPS calibration and performance testing facility on its municipalities. Such a development will require in-depth study of the current status of GNSS systems, the need for quality control and, most importantly, the most suitable methods for designing and implementing the facility. This study presents a brief description on existing Global Navigation Satellite systems including the American Global Positioning system (GPS) and the Russian Global Navigation system. It shows their basics, their current status and a brief comparison between the two systems. This study also discusses the future Global Navigation Satellite system (GNSS) system Galileo as the European contribution to the Global Navigation Satellite system. Also discuss the Beidou-2 / Compass Navigation System. A case study is performed by taking 9th rover DGNSS observations that are well distributed along the Gaza Strip municipalities and based on a base station exists over the land authority building. Positioning E-pochs are taken consideration duration time of 15, 30 and 45 min observation period. The research results are; Combined GPS + GLONASS system is the best positioning system accuracy with 45 minutes duration comparing with other GNSS positioning systems. Finally, the research recommends that using GPS + GLONASS system to increase the accuracy of coordinates required, increasing the length of base line required increasing the duration of positioning to improve the accuracy of the coordinates, updating the coordinates system of Gaza Strip used as a reference for the work of surveying, Provide new GNSS devices to increase the quality of the coordinates. The researcher also recommends establishing a committee developing an integrated strategy to create coordinate system for Gaza Strip that includes members of Land Authority, Ministry of local government, Municipalities.
