TitleUnemployment of Press and Media Graduates Problems and Solutions (Case Study of the Gaza Strip)
Title in Arabicبطالة خريجي الصحافة والإعلام مشكلات وحلول (دراسة حالة قطاع غزة)
Abstract

Unemployment is considered among the leading problems that faces any economy, especially the Palestinian economy, which particularly suffers from this problem. Thus, this study aimed to shed some light on this problem, particularly on the unemployment problem of the graduates of the journalism and media schools in the Palestinian labor market. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used the descriptive and analytical approach. The study used a random sample drawn from the study's population, which includes 3701 persons of both sexes. Sample size was 200 male and female journalists. The most important findings of the study were as follows: The role of universities should be developed and directed towards refining graduates' skills in English language and computer knowledge, as well as to prepare and qualify the graduates of journalism departments through specialized training and practice. Training before and after the graduation is a main factor that helps those graduates to find a job. Limited employment chances for graduates at international press organizations because of the lack of the required proficiency in English among the graduates. The most important recommendations of the study were as follows: To prepare a comprehensive plan by the Palestinian universities to study the needs of the Palestinian labor market in the field of journalism. Student's enrollment in journalism departments should be controlled depending on this need. To pay attention to the training of graduates in the field of journalism considering that specialized training is the best way for them to build their capacity and chance to get a job. Activate the role of Palestinian Journalists syndicate to help the Journalists to express their opinions, and to play the required role in defending their rights and building their capacities.
